ABOUT ME

Hi my name is Don.   My earliest recollection of my love for miniatures was around the age of two.   I remember as a child lying on the floor fixated on a miniature cake decoration set.   I recall staring at it for what seemed like hours.   My later memories were when I was maybe six or seven.   I had collected some cracker jack and gumball machine toys, which I had kept in a very small white cardboard jewelry box.   This little "treasure chest" of very small toys was my pride and joy.   After losing touch with this part of me, it wasn't until my adult life when looking for a hobby in dealing with some personal issues that I had rekindled this passion.    There were a sequence of events and discoveries that eventually led me into my first miniature store.   This was really the beginning of my rediscovery of this interest in miniatures.   I was like that child at two that was so fascinated by those little trinkets.

My interest in rugs goes back to my childhood as well.   When I was ten or eleven years old, I had hooked my first life scale rug from a kit.   I remember finding great solace in the creative process of making this rug.   This rug was was like a special blanket that embodied a lot of warmth and charm.   Added to this was the satisfaction that it would be around for many years.

During my rediscovery of miniatures, my interest in rugs started about the same time.   It was through my own desires to recreate a miniature rug of an old American Indian rug that I had found pictured in a book.   I recall adapting this design to my own liking, all the while paying very careful attention to the most minute of details.   My first handcrafted miniature rug turned out to be extremely crude and out of scale for what I desired.   My disappointment in this, however, didn't get in the way of my joy, as I was proud of my creation.

It wasn't until recent years that I've found a way to put my love for miniatures and rugs together in creating finely detailed and truly scaled miniature rugs and wall hangings.   All of these experiences for me were a wondrous natural progression in bringing together the best of both worlds which I hope you will enjoy!
