Hello, my name is Don, I've been designing and handcrafting fine collectible miniature rugs, carpets, and wall hangings professionally now for over five years, but my passion and love for miniatures and rugs started long before that. I design my miniature rugs and wall hangings for dollhouses, roomboxes and that special setting or to be framed as life size wall art. My rugs are meticulously detailed and crafted, rendering them thin and drapeable, in addition, they will allow furniture to sit on them realistically. I create rug designs that are original as well as adapted from earlier styles,ranging from the primitive to the contemporary. I've created special processes, which I use in handcrafting these detailed pieces to reflect my passion and love for miniatures and rugs as art forms. My pieces are each unique... handmade using a technique I developed to fill a void in the market. I use a non-traditional embroidery sewing machine process, which I developed approximately five years ago. I started out doing my rugs the traditional miniature way such as using hand "embroidery", "bunka", "needle punch", and then "French knots". I was looking for a better way and less time consuming method of crafting my designs. This technique allows me to put an incredible amount of detail in my works for the utmost in artistic expression, not seen before in miniature rugs and wall hangings. My pieces contain thousands upon thousands of stitches per inch. I use natural and some man made fibers. In addition, I use a variety of stitch types creating the different looks and textures you see in my works. All of these attentions to detail, allow me to bring to you the absolute in true realism down to scale and appearance. These trade mark characteristics of my pieces also allow me to work in an unlimited amount of styles and designs, unlike other methods that have traditionally existed. As this is a passion of mine, I'm creatively looking to develop new and different techniques as well as new and exciting styles and designs. My miniature rugs are especially suited to be framed individually and hung as life size wall art. My work is also well suited for that special occasion such as a wedding where, for example, a traditional folk art design rug, personalized, could make a very unique and memorable gift for the happy couple.
